The beauty in Symmetry
Most architectural designs created tend to ignore the beauty found in balance when the rule of Symmetry is brought into play in the design consideration. Proportionality, stability, and balance are evident in any building design where symmetry is obeyed. Symmetry, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary, is the " beauty of form arising from balanced proportions". It also defines symmetry as the " correspondence in size, shape, and relative position of parts on opposite sides of a dividing line or median plane or about a center or axis". Among these definitions, the first relates to forms and shapes. Emphasis is on the beauty of such forms arising from balanced proportion. The interiors of any building may convey different functions, but a balanced proportion brings into play, either on the elevation or on the aerial/floor plans, aesthetical grace that tells a complete story of harmony.
